Finally we have a interview with the god of SMF themes and SMF customizer RunicWarrior!
1. How long have you been writing themes for SMF?
Hmm this is tricky its been a few years I think my first was Negative in September 05.
2. Where do you draw your inspiration for creating new themes?
My religion primary, every theme I make has a religious aspect to it. Besides for religion I would say nature, and of course my own imagination.
3. If you had one piece of advice for "newbie" theme creators what would it be?
One piece of advise for a newbie is simply try, many people think theme's are hard in all honesty if you understand colors or even basic html then you know enough. A theme doesnt need loads of colors or advanced coding they can just be simple edits to the css and template files.
4. If you could pick just one theme as your favorite theme which one is it?
One theme out of my own I would say Noir, unfortunately its exclusive for SMF2 as it has some nice design features and is simple, out of others I do have to save Bloggy, im not a fan of blue themes but *eren has done a great job in showing how SMF can be used to meet modern times.
5. What takes up your time when your not banging your head against a computer screen?
I am a full time volunteer trying to get into one of the most competitive sectors, besides for looking for jobs and doing my volunteering at a conservation charity i like to write poetry and meet my friends, also I love to travel its great to see the world and does clear your head.
6. Finally, if you could submit one do and one don't for creating a theme what would it be?
Do: experiment, try different colors Pink and Yellow can work together, try different coding style check themes out, other websites, just experiment in anyway you can.
Don't: push it, dont do things you know you cant do, it scares you more and makes it harder for you, take small steps and small improvements.
Thanks Runic!
